Match Duration
5 minutes
Tiebreaker Rule
- 1If regulation time ends tied: a 2-minute additional round is played for 4-5 minute bouts, or 1 minute for 2-3 minute bouts (Art. 26).
- 2If the additional round is also tied, positional overtime follows (Art. 27): a single 1-minute round, winnable only by submission (no points). The attacking athlete is whoever's opponent scored last (or coin toss); it starts from back control or the armbar position.
In U13-and-younger categories there is no positional overtime — if the additional round is tied, the Referee and Mat Chairman decide based on attacking activity.
Takedown
Any action starting standing and finishing on the ground with 3 sec top control (except a guard pull). Opponent must be controlled on back/side at ≤90° or, if prone, via 3 points of contact.
Sweep
Called a "Reversal" in this rulebook — bottom-to-top transition without directly establishing a dominant position, 3 sec control. If a dominant position is established directly, 2 points plus that position's points are awarded together.
Guard Pass
Guard is passed and chest-to-torso top control is established (side control, north-south, scarf hold); opponent's back at ≤45° from the mat, 3 sec.
Submission Attack
If the opponent is in genuine danger for at least 3 sec and fully escapes, the attacking athlete is awarded 1 point. If time expires during the attempt, the point is awarded at the end. Wristlock attempts do not score this point.
Knee on Belly
Inside knee or shin applies effective pressure on the torso/abdomen for 3 sec. Placement on the head, neck, or groin does not count.
Mount
"Full Mount" — both knees on the mat on either side of the opponent, facing the head, 3 sec. One arm may be trapped under a knee (must not cross the armpit line).
Back Control
"Back Mount" — chest to the opponent's back, heels between the opponent's thighs (or a body triangle), with up to one arm trapped, 3 sec. The only dominant position scoreable against a standing or bottom opponent.
